1) A range of mains we ordered

2-4) 💖 The space has been redesigned by Scottish artist @natashanumbernine and incorporates faux tree structures, warm lighting and wall art which match the newly designed menus.

5) 🍝 Pasta crisps. These were smoky and a nice one to nibble on whilst deciding on what to order

6)🍴 A selection of starters including calamari, meatballs, aubergine parmigiana croquette and the carrot, cucumber & veggie sticks with bread from the Bambini/kid's set menu. Tops for me were the meatballs

7) 🍕 Rustuca Half & Half Duo Verde. A white based pizza with pesto and spinach base, it contains goats cheese, figs, balsamic vinegar, bufala mozzarella, roquito peppers and cauliflower. I absolutely loved this pizza and would definitely prefer it again.

8) 🍄 Truffle & Pancetta Carbonara. Wild mushrooms in a pancetta, pecorino cheese and truffle infused sauce. Our server highly recommended this and this was also a table favourite.

9) 🐻 The Bambini pizza had little ears which the little one adored. For a moment we feared it might not get eaten but it eventually went down a treat.

10) 🍫 Kids gelato. I had a taste of this and thought the chocolate ice cream was really good! It had a good depth that had a bit more bitterness compared to regular chocolate. The kid ate all of this up!

I've not been to Zizzi's in ages but I've never been disappointed by a visit. The menu is diverse catering to a wide range of dietary requirements. Staff were super friendly and very accommodating to my friend's kid. Definitely one to consider if you want a reliable chain.

Dim sum at @onlyyumcr 🥢

Went with @mcrfoodie and @thechinesefoodie to check out the dim sum here, as there aren't that many reviews.

1) 🤤 We ordered a lot of different things! I'm just going to highlight a few favourites next:

2) 🥚 The egg tarts are pretty good! Really flaky pastry and the egg custard was silky smooth

3) 🌶️ XO turnip cake. A nice change from the regular turnip cake, the additional sauce and toppings were spicy and umami. The turnip cake itself was very well made, so the regular one should also be tasty.

4) ❤️ Red rice rice noodle roll with Chinese doughnut / youtiao. I know of only a few places that serve this and the fact this place does is a plus for me!

5&6) ❤️ Fried taro puffs. One of my mum's favourites so I like to order this. The filling was really good. Not dry which it can sometimes be.

7) 🍄 Cordycep flower (a type of fungus) dumpling. Another one I don't see often, so this was nice to eat.

8) 🥜 Teochew dumplings. Another one that had an excellent filling of mincemeat, peanuts and chives.

Only Yu is the only Manchester restaurant I've visited that offers you some water to wash your bowls and cutlery in. 💧

Orecchiette pasta with mince, olives and peas 😋

September is East and South East Heritage Month. Today's post is a subtle nod to this.

The peas are an odd addition, but mum used to make something similar when we were growing up. The peas were an easy way of adding extra nutrients (and colour!) to a dish, so often I would do the same 💚

Made everything in a wok, because this saves on using multiple pots. When I first came to Manchester for university, my parents packed me with a rice cooker and a wok. They reasoned that with a wok, you don't need both a frying pan and a pot 😏

So this meal has double the feelings of home, despite not actually being an Asian dish in any way 🥰

Mango sticky rice sundae from @lazysundaeuk 🥭🍚🍦

Caught up with a friend and checked out Lazy Sundae since it was nice and I've not been in ages. I opted to go for their 🆕 August special this time, which was this

This was a really nice dessert, but probably not quite "mango sticky rice". I couldn't taste much coconut flavour in the ice cream and puffed rice was used instead glutinous rice. Mango puree was used at the bottom and could have benefited from mango chunks (or more of them if there is usually some). 🥭❣️

If you reframe your knowledge of mango sticky rice and think "mango puffed rice sundae", I think this, 'll be more accurate 🧐

Definitely come to the parlour and try the other flavours on offer! Many of them are flavours I know and love from my visits to Hong Kong. You can ask staff to try a bit of any flavour before dedicating yourself to a scoop 😋

They are found on Tib Street but they are also opening in Arndale soon! Don't forget their sister company @heysipcha, where you can also get a few scoops to take away 🍦

If you're been watching @britishbakeoff Professionals, you would know about this year's contestants, Andrew and Raf from Harwoods. Rooting for you both! 🙌

I first discovered them during lockdown when I was looking for a treat and came across home deliveries of items from the @_makersmarket. Back in April 2020, I ordered a selection of Afternoon Tea items and was hooked on the quality and price! 🤯

As they are based in Standish, I can't really afford to visit often, but when I do I buy a fair bit! 💸

1&2) 🍰 Selection of entremets bought in August 2022

4) 🍫 Chocolate praline tart

5) 🥭 Mango and Passionfruit drizzle

6) 🍒 Cherry and almond frangipani

7) 🍋 Lemon meringue pie

8&9) 🫖 The lockdown Afternoon Tea set. I put their items on a cake stand I had and added a couple of savoury items to the bottom tier

10) 🤎 They also do chocolates! But their entremets are definitely where I fell in love.

Ad @wakuwaku_uk opens on Tuesday 15th August and is a Japanese eaterie featuring a 2D hand drawn interior ✏️

It took Chris, the owner, 4 months to hand draw everything 🤯

We ordered a range of food but here are some highlights

1) Smiley waffles with red bean inside. More on the soft side than crunchy for waffles

2) Mount Fuji floats and green tea drinks. The floats are definitely fun.

3) Battered oysters. So good and the batter is crispy and not very oily!

4) Range of sashimi. Very fresh! Definitely recommend if you like sashimi

5) Mixed tempura. The batter here was very light and again, not very oily.

6&7) Omurice. Egg omelette cooked so it's firm on the outside. The idea is that you cut the middle of the omelette to reveal the runnier egg in the middle. Very fun to eat.

📌 Corner and Bloom. One of the best breakfasts I've ever had. Matcha latte was perfect 🍵. Good suppliers I recognise and good quality ingredients put together and cooked to perfection. Get yourselves down there! Dog friendly 🐕 and they've got veggie and vegan options 🌱

🍦 Ice cream from @anyahindmarch as part of the Ice Cream Project in London. Went for KP Peanut and Ambrosia Rice Pudding.

The project lasts until 27th August and features collaborations with well-known brands across the sweet and savoury sector. 👀

When we went, it was a wet day with a small queue, but it moves quickly. You can buy tubs (£15 for 500ml) or scoops of ice cream in a cup (£3.50 a scoop). Each person is allowed 2 sample tastings of any flavour, so you can try before you buy! 😋

We tried the frozen peas sorbet and that's pretty much blended peas. We asked a group outside what their best and worst flavours were and peas were pretty bottom with digestive and peanuts being top tier. The staff also recommended this combo, as well as the lemon curd. 🥜🍪🍋

The rice pudding is inoffensive and featured actual bits of rice, like the pudding. The KP peanut was my favourite, with a salty-sweet taste that did not fight against the ice cream medium.😍

If you want to try something more local to Manchester, I highly recommend the OG, @gingerscomfort and Asian ice cream parlour, @lazysundaeuk . Both do interesting flavours not often seen in supermarkets here. 🧐
