Christmas is slowly approaching and a lot of restaurants are starting to take bookings, including Provenance Restaurant and Bar in Westhoughton. Downstairs, there is an amazing food hall which is open during the day with local delicacies and upstairs is the restaurant serving a lot of produce from the food hall. Provenance has been featured in the Good Food Guide 2017 with Head Chef, Lewis Gallagher, winning Lancashire Young Chef of the Year twice! With such an amazing introduction, I joined others at their Press Night one evening.*
With a lot of places doing Christmas showcases, it was refreshingly nice to see Pizza Express do a showcase on their Autumn menu. I know people may be sad to see the end of Summer, but Autumn has some of the best seasonal and festive foods! I was eager to see what Pizza Express would come up with to incorporate this and welcome Autumn into the year! There are several branches of Pizza Express within Greater Manchester with 6 in the city centre alone. On this occasion, I visited the Corn Exchange branch.*
What I love about living in Manchester is the fact you have a mixture of fine dining and independent cafes in one city. The Northern Quarter is particularly home to the latter, housing small businesses in Afflecks Palace as well as niche shops and cafes. One such is Nibble, a small cafe located on Oldham Street run by the lovely Lauren Irlam, who has previously managed Northern Quarter’s famous Teacup and the Railway Kitchen and Bar. This is her first venture and the cafe is born from her love of good quality food without the fuss. I take my friend and fellow blogger, Lacey, to the cafe to explore one sunny Manchester day!*
I have heard about Australasia as one of Manchester’s fine dining experience and was excited to be trying their new menu. We were all sat outside on the Terrace with plenty of heated lamps to keep us warm on what was a cool evening. Australasia, as the name suggests, serves food with an Australian and Asian spin. With drinks and canapé versions of the food throughout the evening, I will fill you in with what I was able to try. *
I’ve never been inside a Slug and Lettuce prior to this review. If a restaurant is a huge chain and appears to do American or English food, it tends to slip my mind. I was therefore very grateful when they invited me for a small Cocktail Masterclass as well as some food as this gives me an opportunity to try a place that I had not thought of. Thank you to my dearest blogger friend, Lacey of Laceyfitspo, for inviting me to this. There are a number of branches of Slug and Lettuce in Manchester alone, but this review will focus on the Spinningfields branch. *
If you have visited Viet Shack or Fusion Lab in the Arndale Market, Gym Shack is another venture run by the same guys. Gym Shack takes up residence where Simone’s: The Healthy Baker was. Instead of healthy bakes, we now have healthy meals! Here, I will go into the details of what you can get there.
