Hands up if you ever put chocolate into your morni

Hands up if you ever put chocolate into your morning porridge! 🙋

I know many people who don't like porridge, but I love it because it can be healthy and nutritious AND I can mix it up a bit daily. I get very bored of eating the same foods, but porridge is the one thing I can usually go back to regularly.

Too warm outside? Overnight oats work a treat. Want a different texture? Add chia seeds overnight or sunflower and pumpkin seeds when serving. Add froze, fresh or dried fruit to add some fibre. Peanut butter, tahini or any seeds for more protein.

Any type of porridge, whether it be made from oats, millet or rice is basically a vessel for carrying other flavours.

Who doesn't want dessert for breakfast, am I right?

New on the blog! Portuguese tarts: @just_natas vs @lidlgb comparison. Link in bio! Just Natas starting price is £2 for one tart, whereas Lidl sells theirs for 49p. I buy both tarts and compare the two.

Featured in this shot are two tarts from Just Natas. I do think these look more authentic to the ones I had in Portugal.

Did you know that Portuguese tarts were created by Catholic monks in Lisbon? The monks and nuns back in those times used egg whites to starch their clothes, so the egg yolks were then used to create the tarts.

She's back! Get your authentic Japanese food from @osakalocal.mcr as she is doing delivery orders again! The meals are prepared to be finished at home and they also all freeze pretty well!

I fell in love with Reiko's food the moment I tried it. Each dish is made with care and the ingredients speak for themselves. Last time I ordered the okonomiyaki, a Japanese style savoury pancake, a katsu curry and a rice bowl.

The okonomiyaki has a good structure with a good mixture of cabbage and dough.

The katsu is crispy yet not oily, and the curry sauce accompanying it is delicious with a subtle sweetness found in traditional Japanese curry.

The sweet soy in the rice bowl coats the other ingredients so well, it's very moreish. It's comfort in a bowl.

Everything is served with pickles to add sharpness which I really appreciate.

Hoagies in Manchester via @badabingmcr! This one is called the Paulie Walnuts, named after the protagonist of the TV Series, The Soprano. It's a pretty decent sandwich, generously filled with a good depth of flavour and texture.

This sandwich contains:
Mushroom shawarma
Artichokes
Balsamic caramelised onions
Walnut rocket
Vegan truffle mayo
Gouda (optional or replaced with vegan Gouda)

The sandwiches need to be pre-ordered the day before from 4pm onwards. Collection of only between 12-3pm, Friday - Sunday. The window to collect from is located on the side of B Lounge facing Paton Street.

A hoagie is just another term for a sandwich made from a long cylindrical bread roll. It is also known as a Subway sandwich or sub, popularly attributed to the vehicle due to its shape.

The word hoagie itself probably stemmed from Philadelphia, where during World War 1, Italian immigrants working on Hog Island made sandwiches.

Fifteens are so named because the main ingredients are:

15 digestive biscuits
15 glace cherries
15 large marshmallows

Growing up I'd see these in the school canteen and in many cafes; they were as popular as brownies or caramel shortbreads. It wasn't until I moved the England did I realise just how regional they were. It's very specific to Northern Ireland. Although not specifically a St Patrick's Day treat, why not whip up a batch to celebrate it anyway?

Long Bois Bakehouse is located in Levenshulme and formed by bakers who have previously worked at Pollen bakery. The bakery is only open Friday and Saturdays, but the visit is worth it!

I ate through these over the course of 3 days. I always like variety in my foods and this box beats a standard birthday cake any day. Does anyone else agree?

Experimented with trying to create a crumble without flour and it didn't quite gel together. The crumble topping was too loose, but hey, that's ok. I still devoured it with some ice cream. (Sorry custard fans).

There is growth in experimentation and as much as we should challenge ourselves to new things, we should also acknowledge the learning and experience in trying. Things are never perfect and life is about the journey.

Take in all those moments.

Now back to the debate. Ice cream or custard?
